How times have changed

I've started a new adventure. Cloth diapering. I know it sounds a little nuts because "disposables are so easy". Yes they are. But they are also chock full of toxins, cost a fortune and sit in landfills for decades because as it turns out, they aren't so biodegradable. As I look around I notice more and more that cloth diapering is making a comeback. So is breastfeeding. Both of these needs for babies used to be done by the poor and now the more affluent are the ones clothing and breastfeeding. This is of course Western world trends. Our society has totally shifted gears. Used to be the poor never ate out because they couldn't afford it, all their meals were home made. Now, it is cheaper to cruise through Mc Ds for a double whopper than it is the buy all the fresh produce that I do, seriously, my grocery bill is insane! What happened that has caused the poor to be the bottle feeders ($$$), the disposable buyers ($$$) and eating outers ($$$) that they are today? I didn't intend to politicize this little discussion but it just seems so damn obvious... entitlements! We have to put the power back into the hands of the responsible Americans who work for what they earn, save for what they want and in times of struggle they do just that... struggle. It is only with struggle that I have become a person of deep faith and resilience. I'm not advocating that people let their children off the leash of obedience and watch them struggle as they try to figure it all out because when you are young and impressionable, when parents stop being parents, there is an awful lot of impressions they can get that won't make them the hard working, honest, God fearing person you'd want them to become. Where exactly am I going with this? I don't know... only point I was pondering tonight was how times have changed. I do hope we revert to the times of the past where girls demanded they be treated like ladies, saved their innocence until they were wed, mothers stayed with their children and actually mothered them, fathers worked hard and took pride in it to provide for their families and most importantly there always remained a faith in God. Amen.
