My friend and fellow military wife Erin Graf, myself and Nolan took off on a hike last week up Baldy Mt. in Eagle River. I had been hiking with Nolan in the pack up a few other trails that got my heart rate up but weren't too bad. This mountain didn't really have trails and was straight up! Since the season has been so rainy the footing, if there ever were some, had been washed away and it was just incredibly steep. We made it to the top despite rough terrain and a cranky baby. The fog rolled in and the temp easily dropped 10 degrees in a matter of minutes which probably contributed to the previously said cranky baby. On our way down the mountain I lost my footing once started to slip and quickly turned over onto my hands and knees and slid a little to prevent crushing my kid. Erin as heroic as she is starts sliding down the mountain after us and meanwhile I think she's falling too so I'm trying to catch her and keep myself and Nolan on the mountain. We both ended up grabbing hold of each other and repeating the "are you OK, are you OKs" and decided upon a slow descent down the mountain while she held the handle on the back of the pack for added protection for Nolan. What a hike that was! We ended the day at her house enjoying some pizza...we earned it!
